So yummy, I forgot to take pictures!
Gobo has two outposts here in NYC, one on the Upper East Side and the one I returned to last night in Greenwich Village.
It's a long, somewhat narrow restaurant with lots of tables and a vaguely Asian-inspired decor. They have an *extensive* menu, and yet I always find my self ordering the same entree. I don't know why I'm that way. I always exclaim about how awesome it is to go to restaurants where I'm not stuck with one choice, and then I'll land on a favorite dish at a vegan restaurant and order it over and over. Like the Seitan Picatta at Candle 79.
Anyhoo, I had the following items:
I started with the Chakra juice: Carrot, celery and apple. It just screamed HEALTHY. And was tasty too. Mostly you tasted the carrot.
We had the Spinach Dumplings. These had soy cheese, and honestly I could have been perfectly satisfied with the spinach alone. I don't think the cheese added anything.
I had the Seitan Medallions in a sizzling citrus sauce. This is pure decadence, and a huge portion of seitan. Consider me protein-ed up.
We ordered the Mango Coconut Tapioca. I love tapioca and obviously don't get to eat it anymore, but unfortunately while I was hoping the mango would be on the side, it as infused throughout and overwhelmed the coconut and even the tapioca. So I'm not a mango fan, and this was mango pudding. You do the math.
Finally, we had a really fun quirky waiter who managed to be amusing and engaging without crossing the line into cheesy or so familiar you want to tell her to back on us and just bring us our food. It enhanced the experience.
Gobo was fun to re-visit after several years away, but I will probably continue to favor Blossom, Hangawi and Candle 79 and frequent those places more often than Gobo.

I haven't been to Gobo in forever! Totally forgot about that place. But I'm with you, Blossom and Candle 79 do not compare.

No offense, but if there's a facebook like button, it'll be much easier for me to share.
