As an animal rights advocate for 15 years, I hear you, but don't believe the environmental motivation is very powerful to most people. I live in Port Townsend, WA, a town full of very self-righteous "greenies." Whenever I mention the words vegan or vegetarian, the typical reaction is a blank stare. . ., then maybe some lame self-justification about protein or free-range.

Makes me want to scream! (I do it silently, of course.) BTW, did you read the lastest breaking news at Huffington Post? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kathy-freston/help-stop-cruelty-to-anim_b_127967.html
