Years ago I flew to Hawaii with a cold. I fell asleep and neglected to wake up for the descent and go through the usual machinations to "pop" my ears. Immediately upon waking up as we landed I knew something felt a bit off. My equilibrium felt a bit off, and my head just felt wrong. I thought I'd sleep it off by going to bed early that night, but by the next day I headed off to a clinic on the island. They told me that be neglecting to pop my ears, coupled with the congestion caused by my cold, the pressure differential upon landing had caused blood vessels in my ear to burst, and that could cause a quite serious infection if I wasn't careful. They loaded me up with antibiotics and decongestants, told me I couldn't swim or go up in helicopters, and that if it wasn't better I shouldn't fly home until it cleared up.
So, per MedGagdet, had I been awake, and had I had the necessary prescription the EarPopper would have saved me all the trouble!

Can I purchase an earpopper direct without prescription? If so how much will it cost?

As far as I know it's prescription only. Bummer, huuh?
