This morning young cancer patient Haley Knutsen lost her battle with the disease that she spent 7 of her 9 years fighting.
It was amazing how her community rallied around Haley and her parents, including my friend, Haley's elementary school music teacher. The family appreciated the support and were pretty overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support and money.
So that those donations do not go unused now that it's clear that Haley will not need them, The Knutsens are donating the funds to another young patient at the same medical facility as Haley. This patient has no insurance and has not been accepted into the state program and needs a bone marrow transplant (haley had three in her short lifetime.) You can read a letter from the Knutsens here.
Thanks for bearing with me as I posted Haley's story here. Once I started, I felt I should give regular updates on her struggle. And maybe her story will help motivate others in similar situations to reach out to their community, to use all the resources they can muster, and have hope that the response will be as immediate and as selfless.
